Garter Blue liveried LNER A4 4-6-2 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley on the A4 locomotive Society's Salopian steam special from Shrewsbury to Newport made a water stop at Hereford. The driver or support crew member is checking the oil pots.

Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 30th July 2019

I have just lit up British Railways Standard 5 4-6-0 73156 on shed at Loughborough but with no pressure in the boiler yet I can't operate the blower to clear the pungent green/brown smoke that is escaping from the firehole door as the fire gets going. Still it makes for an atmospheric scene.

Great Central Railway Swithland Leicestershire 21st September 2018

British Railways Standard 5 4-6-0 73156 simmers on Swithland viaduct with the 19.30 diner train. We were here for 25 minutes to let the diners enjoy their food and the sun setting behind us. With the fire, pressure and water in good shape this gave us plenty of time to drop down & take a few shots of the loco. With a very high ISO (& little bit of help from my torch) 73156's smokebox stands out from the darkness.

Copy Pit Cliviger Burnley 17th December 2020

Southern rebuilt West Country pacific 34046 Braunton has just breasted the southbound gradient at Copy Pit summit and the driver has shut-off. This is the Pennine Moor Christmas Explorer, Locomotive Services 1Z87, the 14.37 Blackburn to Birmingham International special. Copy Pit signal box used to stand to the right of the engine by the brick wall beyond which the Todmorden to Burnley road parallels the railway on the far right.

Manchester Newton Heath Lancashire 21st June 1968

It's near the end for Newton Heath steam shed in Manchester. Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48529 catches the light streaming through the holes in the roof into the gloom of the shed interior. This image was used on the cover of "Steam's Last Apprentice" by Victor Penketh published by Wibble Publishing in 2013. An excellent read about Victor's life on the railway from 1959 to the end of steam in 1968 .

I was asked "..Is your loco as highly polished?". Here's the answer! Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 is coming round on shed. We had signed on to prepare Black 5 45305 for its one trip of the day on the 13.20 diner so had plenty of time.
