Loose_Grip/Pete club has replied to MikeinlagardetteIt was once the most northerly outpost of the Southern, - there was a daily service from Lansdown (later from St. James), to and from Southampton Central, via Andoversford, Swindon & Marlborough. I made the round trip during the last week before closure, in 1961, I think! (shows my age!)
They were nearly always "U" class locos, I don't think they ever ran spamcans on that line, but Cheltenham would often field a GWR mogul for the morning train down.
