Double-headed unrebuilt Bulleid Pacifics 34092 Wells & 34007 Bude enter Winchcombe station with the 14.20 train from Cheltenham on the first day of the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway's Festival of Steam.

No, and it's a long time since any Southern trains were near Cheltenham!

It was once the most northerly outpost of the Southern, - there was a daily service from Lansdown (later from St. James), to and from Southampton Central, via Andoversford, Swindon & Marlborough. I made the round trip during the last week before closure, in 1961, I think! (shows my age!)

They were nearly always "U" class locos, I don't think they ever ran spamcans on that line, but Cheltenham would often field a GWR mogul for the morning train down.

I recently read an interesting article about the MSWJR in a recent issue of Back Track, I think it was.
