A small Pumpkinseed Sunfish (Lepomis gibbosis) out of his element at Lake Loree at the Sunny Hill Resort in New Yok's Catskill Mountains. After his "sixty seconds of fame," he was back with his friends (and enemies!).

The completed 300 piece puzzle 'Tree Farm,' art by Bigelow Illustrations and manufactured by Bits & Pieces. I know it's not Christmas quite yet, but all I have left are holiday puzzles! So just put on one of Johnny Mathis' Christmas albums and make believe!
"Great Blue D'Art"

A beautiful Great Blue Heron I shot from my car by the shore of a small pond at the Sunny Hill Resort and Golf Course in Greenville, New York. The original shot came out a bit fuzzy, so I just went for it, accentuating that aspect as a texture. Shot on Memorial Day weekend, 2021. Hope you like it!

Monday, June 14, 2021 is Flag Day in the United States. Our nation's flag is seen here flying over the Sunny Hill Resort in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York.
Let us never forget the many sacrifices that have kept it flying. God Bless America!!

Two young vacationers out rowing on 11 acre Lake Loree at the Sunny Hill Resort and Golf Course in Greenville, New York. Located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, this vacation spot first opened in 1920. I've been vacationing there on and off for 69 of my 70 years For more information on Sunny Hill, visit www.sunnyhill.com .

The beautiful white flowers of Mock-Orange, shot at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on June 5, 2021. This flower ranges from North and Central America to the Caucasus and Hymalayan Mountains and throughout much of Asia.
Warmth
| |
The warm glow of a beeswax candle I bought on a recent trip to the Sunny Hill Resort in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. It was being sold at a craft festival they were holding there. The candle gives off a subtle buttery aroma.
Red-Spotted Newt

A Red-Spotted Newt, Notophthalmus viridescens. I met this beautiful creature along a path at Lake Loree at the Sunny Hill Resort and Golf Course in Greenville, New York during my recent Memorial Day trip up to the Catskill Mountains. This is a juvenile, called an "Eft," and is 1-3 inches long. The adults are green and are 3-5 inches long. They secrete a poisonous toxin to warn predators to "lunch elsewhere."
This brings back happy memories of finding these when I was a Boy Scout at summer camp when I was 11 or 12 years old. It was so nice to find them again!

Red roses growing outside of my apartment building. I thought they would look good on black.
Mute Swan by the Bay
| |
A very beautiful Mute Swan, Cygnus olor, in the middle of preening itself on a small floating dock tied to one of the fishing piers in Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay in New York City. There are two or three pairs of swans that call the bay their home.
Mute Swans mate for life, and are not actually mute, although they are not as vocal as other swan species. If disturbed or threatened, they can become quite aggressive and hiss, as many humans have learned. Their young, called "cygnets," are often grey. Mute Swans are in introduced and invasive species throughout much of the world.

"Home for the Holidays"

No it's not Christmas just yet! There's still sunblock at the beach (or in my case fishing) and falling leaves before then. But since I finished this one, I figured I'd post it now. Hope you like it!
This 300 piece puzzle is by Bits and Pieces from beautiful art by Nancy Wernersbach.

Closeup of Eastern Poison Ivy Toxicodendron radicans, shot at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens, New York City. This special place is part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area.
The active compound in the plant's sap that causes the often virulent skin reaction, including rash and blistering is called urushiol. But many birds and other animals eat the plant and its seeds with no ill effect.

Center detail shot of a huge oil painting we've had hanging in our living room for years. The artist's signed it as "F.Whitman." Joni and I have always loved this painting, which takes up almost a third of the wall. For those of you in warmer climates, I thought it might help cool you off!
