High Desert Forest

High Desert Forest
In the harsh environment of the high Mojave Desert a unique forest of Joshua trees flourish.

This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera with a Carl Zeiss Distagon 1:4 f=50mm T* lens and Hoya Infrared R72 ø67 filter using Ilford SFX 200 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Wonderful textures and contrast. I'm impressed with the quality of the Ilford SFX film. I used to shoot Kodak 35mm infrared back in the day, nice to see that analog IR still lives

Yes, I am fascinated by infrared film photography and will continue the practice. Ilford SFX 200 is red sensitive and works well with appropriate filters such as the Hoya Infrared R72 ø67 filter, bringing out nice IR effects. I also use Rollei IR 400 and several other "legacy" infrared films that have more "true" infrared film emulsions.
The otherworldly effects and stark resolution create classical black & white images.
