Many thanks Old Owl - and thank you for mentioning Todd Hido - I was not familiar with him at all... someone new to explore :)

You're welcome, Jim. I'm just overjoyed that Ipernity hosts someone who can quote Roy Harper songs. We're few and far between, I fear.

Magnificent!
Like Todd Hido’s Bright Black World images, this is bright and inky black, full of potential narrative hints.

Many thanks Steve - I am going to have to take a look at Todd Hido's work ;)
Doing this at night held certain advantages for me, given the subject matter and my rather acute awareness of what people might make of me doing it.

I’m the same, acutely self-conscious about taking photos in public anywhere and attracting attention. One method to sidestep it , I think, is to go out festooned with big cameras and camera bags that shout I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER. Or to have the chutzpah of someone like Martin Parr who goes up to people and says Ooh, what a lovely…..you’re wearing,…Do you mind if I take a photograph?
People, understandably, are suspicious and object to being photographed without permission. I almost saw a fist fight develop the other day when someone took a photo of a passerby without permission. From the photographer’s wildly defensive reaction to being challenged it became clear that he was mentally ill.
This is all by the by. This is a wonderful set of photographs, capturing something of the soul of England.

Thanks you Steve - I'm really glad you like this series - as usual I had "something" I wanted to say about the subject, but not a fully formed idea what that was.
Indeed, we can probably never fully escape from our own public self-consciousness... though maybe one day I'll just not give a damn anymore ;)
