Italy - Mondovi, Chiesa Santi Pietro e Paolo

Chiesa Santi Pietro e Paolo (Saints Peter and Paul Church), which dates back to 1489, is located on the site of the previous place of worship of Santa Maria della Nova. The Baroque façade - originally of simple brickwork - shows a fresco by Morgari and the entrance is a beautiful curvy marble staircase. The Greek cross plan dates back to 1720, while the dome is after 1755.

The interior has beautiful pictorial decoration and wonderful examples of sculpture. Noteworthy are also two canvases along the side nave.

Chiesa Santi Pietro e Paolo overlooks one of the most characteristic squares of Mondovì (Breo) and is surrounded by buildings whose facades are decorated with ancient sundials (PIP5) and marble busts.

As we were sitting on a terrace in front of the church, we met the caretaker of the church. The latter was kind enough to open it for us a little earlier, allowing us to take a look inside.
