Red-breasted Nuthatch

A little Red-breasted Nuthatch on a friend's hand, at Bebo Grove, Fish Creek Park. These little birds are so tiny and so light on the hand. Beautiful little things.

Red-breasted Nuthatch

I always like seeing the noisy, fast little Red-breasted Nuthatches, but they are so speedy that I don't have many photos of them. This morning, though, I managed to get a few images that are worth keeping.

Red-breasted Nuthatch

I don't get a lot of photos of these little Red-breasted Nuthatches, so thought I would upload this one, taken near the Bow Valley Ranch, in Fish Creek Park. This one has quite a bright, colourful breast, so must be a male. The females are much paler.

Can't believe how many Red-breasted Nuthatches there are this year. They are such busy little birds, and I'm always surprised when a photo comes out something other than blurry : ).

Red-breasted Nuthatch

I liked the bright red and the black and white stripes against the snow. This is one of the photos I took yesterday afternoon when I had more or less given up hope of seeing one of the Northern Pygmy-owls. Didn't want to go home with an empty memory card, LOL!

I was a bit disappointed that this photo turned out blurry, as I don't get very many photos of Red-breasted Nuthatches. Thought I would post it anyway, as it does show the gorgeous colours of these very small birds.

This is another of my favourite little birds. Imagine that sharp, pointed beak stabbing at your fingers! Taken on a winter's day towards the end of February.

Red-breasted Nuthatch

Well, it's a good job that at least this little guy's head was in focus, lol. He even sat still on the snow-covered branch giving me a chance for a few shots - all of which came out blurry except for this partly sharp one. Seen on the annual Fish Creek Park New Year's Day Bird Count, at Votier's Flats.
