Snowy Owl
The last few times I've been to the Calgary Zoo, I've wondered where this Snowy Owl's mate was. A few days ago, when I was there, a Zoo staff member was nearby and she told me that the male had died. This female apparently seems to be doing all right on her own in the enclosure, despite the loss of her companion. I miss that smaller, white guy, though : )
Much as I enjoy photographing the Snowy Owls at the Zoo, the real thrill is, of course, to see one in the wild. I think it's been a couple of years since I was out east of Calgary, looking for them.
