White Mountain-avens / Dryas octopetala

White Mountain-avens / Dryas octopetala
A beautiful little White Mountain-avens flower, photographed when we went on a botanizing day trip to Plateau Mountain on July 31st. Plateau Mountain is a long way south of Calgary, found by taking the road going south from Highway 40, near Highwood House.

"Dryas octopetala (common names include mountain avens, white dryas, and white dryad) is an arctic-alpine flowering plant in the family Rosaceae. It is a small prostrate evergreen subshrub forming large colonies, and is a popular flower in rock gardens."
