Yesterday's surprise

Yesterday's surprise
Towards the end of a four-hour walk yesterday morning, we suddenly spotted this beautiful Great Horned Owl perched underneath a metal bridge that crosses the Bow River, right near the path. Had to delete almost every single photoI took of him/her - so blurry because of such low light. Thankfully, this one is just fit to be used. When I saw this owl, the first thing I noticed (apart from the fact that this was a very unusual place for an owl to be), were it's drooping ear tufts. Then I noticed that one eye was "wonky" - not good news at all when it comes to trying to catch food. A friend who is a superb and experienced birder, who was there, reckons that this bird is "on his last legs, a bird seeking shellter, one whom was ready to meet his Maker." What a sad thought. Glad I have a photo as a memory of this beautiful creature. Good luck, buddy.
