Sehr schön.

In ancient Greece and Rome, hawthorn was a forbidden plant inside houses, because it was believed to be called Artemis, a goddess opposed to monogamous unions. That is why at weddings five torches made of hawthorn wood were carried. And annually the couples offered flowering hawthorn branches to the goddess Maia. This offering took place in the month of May, the month of purification.
