St Martin's Point, Guernsey

This is a mighty old shot but still one of my fave shots taken in Guernsey :-) I was so very lucky with the weather conditions that day! This was taken in about 2007. It wasn't taken in 2013 and if I try and change the 'date taken' I seem to then have problems with where, in the order my photos are displayed, this photo shows :-)

"Till I Gain Control Again"

Added to ‘Soundtrack Weekend’ www.ipernity.com/group/362993 “Like a lighthouse you must stand alone Landmark the sailor's journeys end No matter what sea I've have been sailing on I'll always roll this way again” “Les Hanoi Lighthouse rises from a reef on the south west side of the Island of Guernsey, and takes its name from the group of rocks - Les Hanois. The lighthouse marks the western end of the Channel Islands indicating the shoals and reefs to the west of Guernsey and providing a position fix for vessels entering the Channel Traffic Separation Scheme.” (From the Trinity House website) “Till I Gain Control Again” was written by Rodney Crowell and is one of my all-time fave songs. Just like the sun over the mountain top You know I'll always come again You know I love to spend my morning time Like sunlight dancing on your skin I've never gone so wrong as to telling lies to you What you've seen is what I've been There is nothing I could hide from you You see me better than I can Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you can hold me now Till I can gain control again Like a lighthouse you must stand alone Landmark the sailor's journeys end No matter what sea I've have been sailing on I'll always roll this way again Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you can hold me now Till I can gain control again I am familiar with Rodney’s original and versions by Emmylou Harris, Albert Lee, Waylon Jennings, Crystal Gayle, Van Morrison and Raul Malo but I was not familiar with this version by the Haley Sisters and I am now searching for their album :-) In my humble opinion songs don’t come much better than this :-) Watch/Listen here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwc9QQEPvqw

"Rock Me on the Water"

Added to ‘Soundtrack Weekend’ www.ipernity.com/group/362993 In this very old Guernsey shot of 'Fort Grey' there are rocks and water. So that is good enough for me to link this to “Rock Me on the Water” written by Jackson Browne and performed here by Kathy Mattea. It probably sounds like everyone and every song are my faves :-))) But, this all-time classic song is one of my faves :-) And, Kathy has always been one of my faves :-) We have been so very fortunate to have seen Kathy live in concert on several occasions over the years :-))) Extracts from Wikipedia - “Kathleen Alice "Kathy" Mattea (born June 21, 1959, in South Charleston, West Virginia) is an American country music and bluegrass performer who often brings folk, Celtic and traditional country sounds to her music. Active since 1983 as a recording artist, she has recorded seventeen albums and has charted more than thirty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. This total includes the number one hits "Goin' Gone", "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses", "Come From the Heart" and "Burnin' Old Memories", as well as twelve additional Top Ten singles.” “In 1994, Kathy collaborated with Suzy Bogguss, Alison Krauss, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash to contribute "Teach Your Children" to the AIDS benefit album Red Hot + Country produced by the Red Hot Organization. Also on that album, Kathy teamed up with Jackson Browne to contribute "Rock Me on the Water". Also through the '90s, she often collaborated with Scottish folksinger songwriter Dougie MacLean.” “Kathy has been heavily involved in HIV/AIDS-related charities, beginning in the early 1990s, and is often credited with being among the first to champion this cause among the country music community. She is the recipient of the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award, and the Harvard AIDS Institute Leadership Award for this work.” Fort Grey is now a Shipwreck Museum. In days gone by it was, reputedly, the haunt of witches but I haven't seen any here................yet :-) Watch/Listen here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpuw_y5zu_k

Guernsey

Looking towards Moulin Huet Bay..........kind of :-)) Re-visiting a shot taken on New Year’s Day back in 2010. Even though this was a while back I very clearly remember standing here for ages and ages waiting for the sun to set! And, getting colder and colder desperately trying to hold the camera steady :-)) I was mighty glad to get back to the Hotel for a ‘hot toddy’ :-))

More lookin' through old shots :-)) The structure on the left is part of the World War 2 German Coastal Defences. I do believe there would have been a gun emplacement here. German Forces occupied Guernsey from 30 June 1940 until the liberation on 9 May 1945.

Guernsey (Icart)

Have just returned from a New Year break in Guernsey so will now be trying hard to catch-up! We had a brilliant time and thank you to Brian and Mary for doing all the organising! The weather was a little bit interesting to say the least!!! But, we did see quite a few bright and sunny bits :-))) This shot was taken on New Year’s Eve when we had intended to go over to Herm. But, they couldn’t guarantee the boat would get there successfully and even if it did there was no certainty they would be able to get us back to Guernsey!!!!! *******A Very ‘Happy New Year’ to All*******

Guernsey Power Station

I have walked by the Power Station countless times but never taken that many photos. But, I did take lots this New Year.........probably because the winter light seemed to make it look more attractive:-)))
