Kop Hill Climb 2012

22 Sep 2012 2 7 318
A shot from last year's Kop Hill Climb. I would have liked there to have been a bit more space around the car. But, you only see the cars coming out of the trees and bushes at the last split second so it is not always possible to achieve better composition. Well, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it :-))

“Soup for Dessert, Sir?”

End of Term Revelry (Oxford University) The tradition of “trashing” i.e. spraying each other’s academic gowns with champagne, eggs and shaving foam after completing their finals. Plus Heinz Soup it would appear :-))

Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda

29 Oct 2012 6 4 261
From Wikipedia - “The Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda was completed in 1980 at the northern edge of Willen Lake in Willen, Milton Keynes. This was the first Peace Pagoda in the western world. There is a Nipponzan-Myōhōji Order temple and monastery nearby.” From www.theparkstrust.com/parks/willen-lake-north - “The Peace Pagoda was built by the monks and nuns of the Nipponzan-Myōhōji as a symbol of world brotherhood. Above it, 1,000 cherry trees commemorate the victims of war, while prayers and messages of hope decorate the nearby One World Tree. Alongside the Pagoda is the distinctive Buddhist Temple, where the public is welcome inside or to visit the grounds with their Japanese and Zen gardens.”

Biochemistry Building (University of Oxford)

I think the Biochemistry Building was completed in 2008. Anyway, it cost £49 million and I think it was money well spent for ‘us photographers’ :-) www.ox.ac.uk/media/news_stories/2008/081212_1.html This is an oldish shot that I have been playing around with in Photoshop to try and boost the colours and contrast a bit! This reminds me that I do really need to get back to taking more shots of the Biochemistry Building :-)

This is a view from The Temple of Concord & Victory. On this day, unusually, the Temple was open to visitors. And, that gave the opportunity to stand in the doorway and include more of the columns and the Valley beyond :-)

The Temple of Music is situated on an Island in the Lake. You can only get there by boat and I guess you would need to get permission from the Dashwood family :-)))

The Temple of Music From Wikipedia - “The Temple of Music is on an island in the lake, inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Rome. It was designed for Dashwood's fêtes champêtres, with the temple used as a theatre; the remains of the stage survive.”
