Queen Anne's Lace
Right now, this flower is in full blossom all over southern Oregon, and that includes Cottage Grove, where we went on our bike ride yesterday! Fields were filled with these flowers and I decided that I would take pictures of it for my Picture of the Day. I ended up using a picture which included one of the covered bridges to symbolize my day, but I wanted to share more pictures from our adventure! This one turned out better than I could have ever hoped!! :D To me, this shows why this flower got its name!!
By the way, if you look carefully, you'll notice exactly ONE tiny red flower in the middle. This blossom helps to attract insects, and it symbolizes a drop of blood from Queen Anne pricking her finger on a needle! These flowers are also called wild carrots and are an invasive weed. (Never try eating the root, because this plant is very similar to Poison Hemlock) If you would like to know more about this flower, Wiki has a nice page here: Wikipedia: Queen Anne's Lace (Anthriscus sylvestris) and I found a nice pdf here: Goodoak: Queen Anne's Lace
