The Amazing Terrestrial Jellyfish!

The Amazing Terrestrial Jellyfish!
[best appreciated at full size against black]

Off in a darker area of our lower forest, where I haven't cleared out the brush and tidied things up, there are many logs and fallen branches on the ground. I went there a couple of weeks ago with hopes of finding some mushrooms. I was not disappointed!! This was where I found my "Spanish Dancer" mushroom ( www.flickr.com/photos/sfhipchick/6948165643/in/photostream/ ), and I found many others too! As I was peering carefully at a moss and lichen-covered log, I was delighted to find a dainty little mushroom who was happy to be my next photo subject! As I began setting up for the shot, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a tiny white stem or something. When I turned my gaze, I was astonished to find this incredibly small mushroom, its cap only 1/4" across, upon this incredibly long stem which is stretching for the sky! I was so excited that I had to force myself to move extra slow and carefully so I didn't accidently bash it while I "dressed the scene", pulling away leaves and pine needles. This image was taken with our flash setup, which made for quite the dramatic low-key shot! As I took pictures, it struck me how much this little treasure looks like a jellyfish! I found a jellyfish photo from a Flickr member which has a likeness, posted below, so you can see what I mean!

I've uploaded two other pictures today and I hope you'll visit them too!

Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! I try to go to all of your pages within a day or two and is a highlight for me to see your beautiful photography! :)

NOTE! I have finally updated my profile and I hope you'll take a look to find out a little more about me and how important all of you are to my experience here on Flickr!
