Wise Old Man
As I walked back to the house today, I made my way through our tall stand of dead teasel, and as I know this is a hangout for mushrooms, I always look down to see if I notice any. Today I found this teetering old man resting in the grass, muttering to himself and looking out at the world. I greeted him warmly and asked him if he had any words of wisdom for me to share. He sat for a long moment, quietly mulling over his life and what he could offer. "Child," he said, "I can offer you this little tidbit to carry with you on your path through life. Use it well:
One hope will raise our spirits.
One touch can show you care.
One step must start each journey.
One word must start each prayer.
One voice can speak with wisdom.
One heart can know what’s true.
One life can make the difference.
It’s always up to you."
Thanking him gratefully, I thought a lot about what he said as I went home with his picture. Great words to live by!
