Tech. - Old Missle (sic) Site, WA

Abandoned ICBM site near Davenport, Washington state, USA. "Missile" is misspelled on the road name! This site was #6 of 9 run by Fairchild AFB out of Spokane, WA. All were within 50 miles or so of Spokane; here's a map: www.siloworld.net/567thSMS/FAIRCHID-1L.HTM. The ICBM based here was an Atlas E, and the site was active from September 1961 through early 1965. Liquid-fueled ICBMs were seriously impractical because of the time needed to set up and fuel them, so they became obsolete when missiles using solid, storable propellants became available. PS: The "SiloWorld" site seems to be abandoned because it hasn't been updated since '07, but the posted pages are still accessible.
