Castilleja spp. A common genus of wildflower in western North America. The flowers are supposed to be edible. The whole plant can be very toxic, however, because it tends to concentrate selenium.
Monardella oderatissima (mountain pennyroyal)? Dunno. It's in the Virginia Range, the low semiarid range east of the Carson Range, the latter part of the Sierra Nevada. Nevada, USA.
Outside the old Tonopah Airfield, Nevada, USA. I think this one may have been planted as an ornamental back when the base was operating in WW II, because it's a bit outside its range. Joshua trees are supposed to have gotten their name from Mormon emigrants, who thought they looked like Joshua beckoning them onward.
Lupinus spp., probably Lupinus nevadensis . In Washoe Lake State Park, a couple of miles from my house. Lupine is toxic to livestock, due to its alkaloid content, and rangeland degradation can occur as the lupine takes over due to overgrazing. Per Wikipedia, anyway, lupine species have been used as food in both the Old and New Worlds, but the seeds have to be soaked to remove the alkaloids.
Wyethia spp. Often called "sunflowers" locally, and per Wikipedia they're indeed related. A common flower in Northern Nevada, they pretty much like the same conditions the sagebrush does, maybe a tad wetter. They can add quite a splash of yellow to a meadow! The name comes from the broad tapered leaves. The gray-green fronds in the background are sagebrush.
