The front part (the brick/stone part off to the right; this is the side) was built in the 1860s, and is still in use. It's one of the oldest buildings in Nevada, and the oldest hotel.
Crown Point Mine, from the parking lot of the Gold Hill Hotel. Gold Hill is next to Virginia City on the Comstock Lode, the massive silver deposit that helped fund the Union side of the American Civil War and led to Nevada's statehood in 1864. There was new activity here in the 1970s with the run-up in precious-metals prices then--the excavation above the headframe is an open pit dating from that time--but it's all protected as a historical site now.
