Coast redwoods

Sequoia sempervirens, the coast redwood, occurring in California from south of the Bay Area north to the Oregon line. This was an important timber tree, and surviving large specimens are largely confined to Redwood National Park and vicinity, though a few isolated individuals, spared by loggers, survive elsewhere. There is lots of second growth through its range, as in the SF Peninsula, and in a thousand years or so they'll be as spectacular!
