Pacific Crest Trail

Pacific Crest Trail
South of Sonora Pass, in California's Sierra Nevada. The notch in the ridge in front of the hiker in the distance is above Leavitt Lake.

It was--but it was a bit nerve-wracking that day because of the proximity of the thunderstorms!

It's certainly a barren landscape.

Heh. We're over 10K feet here (3K m)--well above timberline! And all the shattered rock is from millennia of freeze-thaw cycles; "frost riving" (or "wedging") in the jargon. Not conducive to soil formation! ;)

This looks the sort of path where you need proper soles on your hiking boots or you'd feel every single stone;-) I can understand you wouldn't want to be caught out in a thunderstorm up there!

We tried putting booties on the dogs for a while, but it turned out to be counterproductive. Grit would get trapped inside the bootie and abrade their pads even more!

(I'd posted this a week or so back, but now see that it didn't go thru for whatever reason.)
