Surf's up!

Surf's up!
Washoe Lake showing the effects of (a) the continued snowmelt; and (b) the Washoe Zephyr! Inset shows this dock & ramp back in February, 4 months ago almost to the day. The lake has risen another couple of feet or so since then, and there continue to be flood warnings on local streams and creeks due to snowmelt from the now-hot weather.

Heh. It's a local joke. In _Roughing It_, Mark Twain named the howling orographic wind that comes east off the Carson Range, those mountains on the skyline, the "Washoe Zephyr"--and the name has stuck. The Carson Range is the branch of the Sierra Nevada that juts into Nevada and defines Lake Tahoe's east side. So, Tahoe is just over those mountains. When the cowboys at the Ponderosa rode into Virginia City, they had to cross those mountains, this valley, and the Virginia Range behind me. It wasn't an afternoon's trail ride! (The sheer _power_ you have as a scriptwriter... ;)

It does look decidedly different, with the waves it nearly feels like the sea:.) Belated HFF, Steve!
