USFS Road 03

USFS Road 03
Eldorado National Forest, about 1/4 mile before its intersection with the famous (or notorious) Rubicon OHV Trail. I gave it up here-- (I have a stock Jeep Wrangler, and we'd _already_ gone thru some--ahem--marginal sections.)

Smiley Derleth, Pam J have particularly liked this photo

That's a road? Looks more like a dried up river bed!

Like some of the "roads" we used to use Land Rovers and Pajeros on in Bosnia.

Some years back Land Rover ran a great full-page magazine ad, showing a rutted track with the caption, "In some parts of the world this is not off-road driving." ;)

What's happened now is that the OHV "roads" have become so extreme that highly specialized vehicles, not suitable for ordinary roads, are built to do them--and even are towed to places like the Rubicon trail! They bear much the same resemblance to an ordinary 4x4 as does a Formula 1 to a stock sports car. The high-end model of the Jeep Wrangler is named the Rubicon, after the trail--but as I've noted with some amusement, the stock Rubicon couldn't do the Rubicon!
