11817 ft/3602 m. In the La Sal Mountains of eastern Utah, near the Colorado line. Looking NNW from Utah State Route 46. The southwestern monsoon was in fine form! And, yes, there are still a couple of patches of snow left.
The La Sals are laccoiths--they formed as blisters of magma intruded underneath the sedimentary cover. That cover is now eroded off the top to expose the igneous rock, but around the mountains here and there you can see the eroded, upturned edges of the original sedimentary layers. Alas, I couldn't get a good pic with the time I had--
