From downstream. This is off the access road to the put-in point for the Black Canyon river trip, below the dam. Aside from the buses for the river trips, this road is closed to the public. The bridge is nearly complete and opened for traffic a few months later. Nevada (to left) and Arizona (to right), USA.

Thanks! The death toll, of course, was far higher than it should have been because of the casual attitude toward workplace safety in those days. Far fewer people were killed or injured in the building of Glen Canyon Dam (also a big structure in a deep canyon) a generation later. Lots more worker safety laws by then!
