Car hulk

Car hulk
By the early 20th century, miners were using gasoline engines to power their equipment. Rather than buy an engine, they'd buy a clunker, drive it to the mine site, and pull the engine there. Lots cheaper, and the engine furnishes its own transportation! That's why you tend to see lots of engineless car hulks around old mines in the American west.
