Smoking

Smoking
Geez, wish I'd remembered this one a few weeks ago. It would have been SO perfect for the Vintage Theme Park theme of "Smoking" - my two year old brother kindly being indoctrinated into the pleasures of smoking by my Uncle Steel.
Woodlands Avenue, 1958.

, have particularly liked this photo

Yes, almost everyone smoked when I was growing up. My mother didn't but my Dad did for many years. It was normal at any party for the air to be blue with smoke - and always, going out to a restaurant or bar, you smelled of cigarette smoke the next day - whether or not you were a smoker. Everyone smoked in cars and never thought to check with other non-smokers - nobody would have expected to be asked if they minded.
Very glad it's all changed!
I never smoked - one of the reasons being that, as a chronic fidgety person, (tapping my fingers, playing with sugar, biting my nails, etc,) I always felt that if I ever started I would be a complete smoking fiend with so much to do with my hands. : )

Looks like he's getting a light from your brother :) Of all the photos I have of my father I doubt that as much as 1% show him without a cigarette in his hand or burning in a nearby ashtray.
