Ivy and Len Gregory

Ivy and Len Gregory
Wedding photo of Ivy Howard and Len Gregory. This is my mother's Uncle Len, my grandfather's brother.
His granddaughter, told me that he was a fireman in civilian life and then stayed in London during the blitz in WW2 as a firefighter. In WW1 he was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and his dog tags give the number 40877RDF

(The following from fulvue on Flickr - thank you, and thanks to art nahpro for infomation, too.)

From the National Archives:

Description Medal card of Gregory, Leonard
Corps Regiment No Rank
Royal Dublin Fusiliers 40877 Private

Date 1914-1920
Catalogue reference WO 372/8
As the war went on men were placed in regiments according to numerical need, and bore no relation to their own origins. Jocks in English regiments, English in Welsh and so on.

Arlequin Photographie has particularly liked this photo
