Broken Beehive

Broken Beehive
Beehive coke oven near the ruins of the mining town of Cochran, AZ that has collapsed due to time and possibly also vandalism sadly. There are four others still intact.
This is what it looked like before it collapsed. Very Big Bees

I missed going to Cochran when I lived in Tuscon and Phoenix (I see it is inbetween those two cities)! I should have looked for ghost towns when I was there, but for some reason didn't.

These are fascinating. I've never seen ovens like this before. Do you know anything about how they were used?

I'm not too familiar with the process but I believe these were used to heat coal to turn it into coke which was used to smelt the copper from the mines.
