Störmthal 2015 – Church

Störmthal 2015

A small village in Saxony, Germany. Famous for its church from 1722, which contains an organ which was played and approved by Johann Sebastian Bach. In the 1980s the GDR authorities had plans to destroy the village so lignite could be dug. The Wende stopped those plans.

Störmthal 2015 – Church

In 1722-1723 a new church including a new organ was built in Störmthal. The approval of the organ was done by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach was satisfied and he composed and directed a cantate for the dedication of the church (Höchsterwünschtes Freudenfest BWV 194). The organ is still mostly in the same condition as when Bach played it. More info: www.gothic-catalog.com/St_rmthal_Germany_Hildebrandt_organ_1723_s/884.htm
