When I was in Vienna I saw an edition of Musikantenstadl on the television. You see strange and overly coiffured musicians in traditional clothing singing German Volksmusik . You can say a lot of things about Volksmusik, mainly that it is so sweet that your teeth fall out if you listen to it too long, but what struck me was the near-ecstasy of the crowd. Their behaviour didn't differ much from crowds at popular pop or rock concerts.
Musikantenstadl means so much as Musician's Stable.
It was broadcasted live in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
