Dorpskerk in Leidschendam
The first version of this church dates from 1653. The church burnt down in 1693, but it was rebuilt. In 1865 some rebuilding took place and the roof was changed.

The Dutch writer Rudy Kousbroek re-undertook the journey from Deshima to the Shogun in Edo that the Dutch had to do yearly from 1635 to 1867 (the time the Dutch had a establishment in Deshima). He encountered an old inn, which was described in the old journals. He was very enthusiastic as it looked very original. Then a Japanese guy appeared and explained that the inn had burnt down several times and that it was all very new.

Even the castle in Leiden dating from around 1000 AD had very few original stones.

Een kerk die is gebouwd voor de protestante eredienst, vandaar de afwijkende vorm die lijkt op de eveneens voor de protestanten gebouwde Marekerk in Leiden.
