Depends a bit on the airport (Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah) and the prevailing winds of course. It takes a bit longer nowadays as they have to avoid Syria.

After decking my oil rig boss in Bahrain airport on rig change day, I had to get back to our office and quit before he could get there to sack me, else I would have had to pay my own fare back to Blighty.

However he had his revenge after a fashion for I was booked on several short haul flights in a tortuous journey back to England i.e. Bahrain, Kuwait, Baghdad,, Beirut, Istanbul, Berne, Hamburg and finally Heathrow!

It took me six days to get home, but I had a brilliant stop over in Beirut which was a wonderful place to be in the early seventies so it wasn't all bad.

I guess that more people want to deck their boss. Was he particularly obnoxious?

Did you already suffer from malaria on the way back?

I've heard that Beirut was quite a wild place, you didn't take any pictures there?

He was most obnoxious, a small guy who hated tall blokes especially English ones!

The malaria started a few days after getting home.

Sold my camera in Bahrain as I was a bit boracic ;¬)
