Rijksmuseum 2013 – The Dutch Ambassador on his Way to Isfahan

Rijksmuseum 2013 – The Dutch Ambassador on his Way to Isfahan
In 1651–1652 the Dutch ambassador Joan Cunæus and his secretary Cornelis Speelman travelled to Isfahan to stimulate trade in horses and silk. The man on the left is probably the Sultan of Bandar Abbas.
The painting was made by Jan Baptist Weenix (1621-1659). The painting dates from 1653–1659.
