Leipzig 2013 – Haus der Geschichte – Dieter Rieke

Dieter Rieke resisted the forced merger between the Socialist SPD and Communist KPD parties in the GDR after the Second World War. He was arrested and convicted to 25 years in prison in 1948. The British Labour Party made representations on his behalf and he was let out of prison and out of the GDR in 1956. He lived until 2009.

The Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig is part of the Haus der Geschichte, or History House. The Haus der Geschichte is located in Bonn, Berlin and in Leipzig. It is a museum and a collection of the history of Germany.
