Work on the Station Square tunnel – again

Work on the Station Square tunnel – again
This tunnel was built in 1995 to divide the cars travelling north-south from people walking to and from the railway station. The tunnel couldn't be just a tunnel, it had to be designed and embellished. Tiles were placed on the sides and you can see the waves in the concrete of the tunnel entrance. The tiles had to be cleaned with high pressure water every two months. It is a noisy operation and half the tunnel is blocked.
Some time ago a couple of the tiles on the sides dropped off. Nobody could discover the reason why the tiles wouldn't stay affixed to the wall and because loose tiles were considered dangerous, a decision was made to remove the tiles. Two months of agonising noise ensued from the pneumatic drills used to hack the tiles of the walls. Since then the walls have remained grey concrete. Until this week. Workers are doing something to the concrete and perhaps the tiles will come back.
We shall remain silent on the cost to the tax payer.
