Things are certainly jolly in Bad Harzburg, if you see this bacchanal depicted here. Certainly the most unlikely thing depicted on a bank note I ever saw.

The high inflation period after the First World War in Germany and other countries didn't go unnoticed in the rest of the world. The worthless paper money found its way in the collection of many people, among them was my grandfather. How he came about these notes, I don't know.

It might have been festival "money", i.e. nothing to do with the monetary problems of Germany.
