The Mare Dyke Mill: the oldest mill in Leiden

This is a mill to keep the polder dry. Now we use electric pumps.
This mill dates from 1735, replacing earlier ones. This mill has an Erikson electric motor from 1925, now a monument in its own right. It was in operation until 1970 and restored in 1983.
