It was a performance to mark the disappearance of the sound of the foghorn from the UK's coastal landscape. Modern technology has eliminated the need for this method of warning ships about coastal hazards. The performance was given by a brass band (in the photo) with the accompaniment of ship's horns (some of the ships are in the photo) and the large foghorn at Souter Point (behind the camera).
