Rainstorm Costume 1: Cloud Headpiece 3/13

I'm crocheting a rainstorm costume for Halloween. This was the first photo, from March 2013, showing the central cloud of the headpiece.

I'm crocheting a rainstorm costume for Halloween. This is the second photo, from May 2013, showing how the headpiece has gathered more clouds...
I don't think I can keep using the webcam for these photos! Like my tree costume last year, it's getting too big to photograph at arm's length.

I crocheted this for myself this year, starting with the hat in March. No pattern, obviously! Just freeform and hyperbolic and some beading. There are starfish and sand dollars visible, the rest is more abstract...

Snail Costume
|
|
All homemade, no purchases required--the hat is crocheted from stash yarn; the shell is a roll of foam rubber, spraypainted and held together with duct tape; strapped on using some old AFO velcro straps.
Costume was inspired by the snail character in the "Frog and Toad" books by Arnold Lobel.
This photo appeared in the Knithacker blog, 1/22/11:

This costume was one of ten finalists in the Heidi Klum/patch.com "Little Pumpkins" creative costume challenge 2011.
Thrifted green skirt, after

Added a crochet insert along one of the curving seams, in green and purple; also added chained loops of the purple on the back of the ruffle, to hide the back of the anchoring stitches. Now it fits, and I like it a lot too!
Freeform crochet scarf

My first (intentional) attempt at freeform crochet--I like it more than I thought I would. Like crochet collage, or crochet sculpture... hmmmm.... all thrifted or stash yarn (mostly thrifted).

I made this for my kid. Yarns are Lion Brand Cotton Ease (taupe); Tahki Classic Cotton (red and green).
Crocheted table cover
|
|
We made this "spinning table" for our son, who likes to spin, but is becoming too big for a lot of little kid toys that do that. It's the base of an old desk chair, with a 3-foot wooden circle attached. I crocheted the cover from t-yarn and other fabric strips found at Trash for Teaching.
