Bathers in the Ganges

Remarkable size differences amongst the local people.

An optical illusion from compressed perspective (this was taken at the long end of the zoom - I myself was surprised to realise, on closer inspection, that the central figure in a turquoise sari is a full-sized adult; she was just further away than it appears) NOT, as you insinuate, by Sheppertonisation.

The only figures imported from elsewhere are the two in the bottom LH corner and bottom right, put there to hide Western-dressed figures. The picture, below, is the unedited original. In it, as you can see, all the other figures are the size they were, including the central figure and the red-scarved lady on the left.

That's what I was referring to. The lady in red has clearly just arrived from Shepperton.

She hasn't!! She's there, same size, on the original, above.

She's just a large lady then? Looks so much bigger than the bare-chested chap.

She is a large lady, but she was also much closer to the camera than the man was. Note the steep flight of steps between them.

I think sizes are overrated.

Maybe they are, but you never know with Howard.

I didn't realise it was a steep flight, as it looks like only two steps.

Look more closely. I can see five steps.

As I say, the figures do appear to be mismatched in size, but this is because of the compressed perspective from the long focal length and the camera being angled downwards, almost in line with the steps. The fact should be clear from the unedited, ex-camera original image, above.

That's a marvelous shot, Howard! I always find it very interesting to see other cultures like this. You have captured their bathing excellently. And I never would have been able to tell the work you did in the lower left corner if you hadn't talked about it. It was great post-processing!

Fascinating and weird. I do have very divided view on, whether to visit these places and if to take shots.
