Ah ha! Another street I know - I had a client living in one of the cottages at the right hand edge of this very pleasing shot.
My semi-annual visits were always looked forward to by me not least because I had lunch at a lovely pub, whose name I've long forgotten!

How do you get that spongy look?

Sorry to butt in, but I suppose it's inevitable with the saturation coverage afforded a certain 'Sponge Bob' a while ago. I watched this craze from afar with utter amazement! I thought a lesson had been learnt with Mr Blobby. Aparently not!

What is that spongy effect? It feels as though the houses have no substance and one could squeeze them like a marshmallow.

No special effect was applied here. Perhaps the houses do have no substance; I don't know because I didn't try squeezing them.

All I did was recolour one which is painted a bilious purple colour to a less offensive amber, and the adjacent house which is acid yellow to a muted blue.

I've just checked on streetview and you're right about the bilious purple.
I would be tempted to scrawl graffiti all over it (on photoshop, of course).

You must have some sort of effect on there, because it doesn't look normal.
It doesn't seem to have the right amount of sharpness.

I've sharpened it digitally. That's standard procedure after developing any RAW image, but I might have forgotten to do that in this case. The amount of detail is normal but it was taken in hazy sun, and hence would anyway not look as sharp as if it had been taken in bright sun.

The technical stuff is quite beyond me, but it does seem slightly less spongy now.
Roy was hoping you'd taken it down to write some graffiti - Roy Rules OK.
