Interesting that they could get enough FRESH fish inland for there to be a whole market devoted to it! (Unless it was mainly freshwater fish but I think that unlikely).

Yes, strange. But "Pond Bay" shown on the OS map in Gothic script, South of the village, suggests that the area once had fish farms.

You may well have a point there, Howard. Certainly monastic fish ponds were a lucrative source of income. Was there a monastery nearby?
