MOTAT (24S) - 21 February 2015

21 Feb 2015 120
For me, the highlight of MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) in Auckland is its collection of trams which include those running on the Western Springs Tramway between MOTAT, Auckland Zoo and the Aviation Museum. This is my period treatment of Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board W2 No. 321 of 1925 which has just run out of the shed to enter service for the afternoon. 200_2_P1030189_Sepia

The original was disposed of in 1973; this is a recreation by MOTAT from another example of the type and is on display at the Auckland museum. 200_2_P1030199

21 Feb 2015 107
'Tumu Herenga Waka' is a modern sculpture made up of important traditional Maori elements of welcome, invitation, journey and discovery. It is inspired by traditional palisade posts once seen surrounding traditional Maori pa by visitors as they approached. These posts (tuwatawata) have been gathered together to form a tumu herenga waka, or canoe tethering post. Auckland Zoo. 200_2_P1030217
