West Side Story (Waterloo) [Mono] - 31 August 2020
The relatively short life of the Eurostar terminal at Waterloo is, I think, a worthy discussion point for many of us but, having come and gone, the space was restored to the then South West Trains and now South Western Railway. The lack of activity in this picture is accounted for by a Bank Holiday Monday and the continuing Covid-19 pandemic.

Totally missed this particular story. Do you mean that Eurostar no longer operates from Waterloo Station?

Um. I don't know how to tell you this. It moved in 2007. I was fairly enraged for a number of reasons. Eurostar services started in 1994, the same year as the National Lottery whose potential benificence continues, inexplicably, to elude me. The station at Waterloo cost, reportedly, £150m but, in spite of a relatively short life - compared, say, to the life of anyone of the actual London termini - the decision was made to move to St Pancras. It was, from an early stage decided to restore the platforms at Waterloo to suburban use and provide much needed capacity for what was then South West Trains but there was a lot of dithering and the abandoned station skeleton lay unattended for a considerable period before meaningful work got under way.

There is a great deal more to the back story so, if you're ever finding it hard to sleep......
