The Captive - 16 October 2015

The White-naped Mangabey is classified as 'critical' in the wild. Whatever one might think of zoos - I have mixed feelings - those with breeding programmes and providing planned protection of diminishing species clearly have an important role to play. One might inaccurately interpret the animal's expression on viewing this picture but the monkeys at London Zoo were leaping playfully from fence to habitat and back so, at the risk of anthropomorphising, I think they were enjoying themselves.

As an aside, the (arguable) success of this photograph represents one more small learning step for me. I take ten times as long as most people but I am now experimenting with focus modes to get better results.
