Monastery Road Bridge - 26 August 2015
Railway bridges are not prominent amongst my photos but there is a little story behind this picture. When approaching this bridge in Monastery Road, Neath from the north (the other side), the abundance of vegetation suggests a disused line and I wanted a picture for my 'Where Trains Once Ran' album. However, there was a Network Rail van nearby and I later determined that this bridge carries a line from Swansea Docks towards the Vale of Neath. There is evidence of a bridge strike in the picture which is curious given the location of the No Entry signs. I speculate that they were put in place with a revised traffic flow because of the damage and the risk of another occurrence. One would imagine that the bracket (centre) once carried the height restriction which, presumably, was not observed by someone.
