The House of St. Barnabas (1) - 10 October 2014

The House of St. Barnabas (1) - 10 October 2014
London can be a frustrating and challenging place for photography, the one city alone presenting enough to the camera to fill a lifetime but at the same time making it difficult to produce uncluttered and worthwhile pictures. This then is a compromise as shall be so many more from the capital; the cars and people will never be absent from many of its streets.

Looking across Soho Square towards Greek Street, I was struck by the 'House of Charity' banner on the building opposite and another glimpse into history. This Grade I listed Georgian building has, since 1951, been known as The House of St. Barnabas. It provides support for the homeless and was formerly a hostel. It is a sobering thought that this symbol of past wealth should play this necessary role today in the heart of a city where, daily, so much personal wealth is casually disposed of.
