Southampton and Dorchester Railway (5) - 31 August 2014
It is hard to believe today that a railway once ran through the heart of the New Forest. The route of the Southampton and Dorchester Railway through the forest was the subject of some argument before it opened joining Brockenhurst and Ringwood.
The trackbed now forms part of National Cycle Route 2 and the rather splendid bridge across it in my pictures has just reopened after 18 months of restoration. This is the view towards Brockenhurst from Setthorns. In the distance are not cyclists but New Forest ponies.
