Detail of Hart House - 12 July 2014
However unexciting a destination in prospect, I am often surprised and pleased by what I find there. With my photography encompassing a wide range of subjects, I do not spend enough time on architecture although I am inspired by the work on Flickr of Andy McGeechan amongst others.
I was very attracted by Hart House in the much altered Vauxhall site in Kimpton Road, Luton and opposite Wyvern House (previous picture). It is a Grade II listed building, built in William and Mary style. The classic architecture is powerful and enduring but, as with many old buildings, it is the detail, such as this griffin, which fascinates. Originally the headquarters of Vauxhall Motors and dating from 1907, the building is now a Business Centre which accommodates the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce and the Registered Office of London Luton Airport Limited.
